Competing products may contain sodium or potassium silicate to stop the leakage. Aqueous solution of sodium and potassium silicate hardens at 45 to 60 degrees Celsius. They make an effective seal, but the problem is that they can harden in the coolant, so if not flushed immediately after the leak is stopped, it can cause blockage where it is not wanted.
